GTA 6 Release Date: Date, Delays, PC Release & Countdown
Last updated: October 3, 2026
The current GTA 6 release date is Thursday, November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. After two delays, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have kept this date through pre-orders and marketing, and they have announced pre-loading arrangements for digital buyers. This guide is the main hub for everything about the launch: the date itself, the history that led to it, what to expect on launch day and where the PC version fits.
The Confirmed Release Date
Grand Theft Auto VI was officially announced in December 2023 with its first trailer. The original target was 2025, and Take-Two later narrowed it to fall 2025. In 2025 Rockstar announced a delay to May 26, 2026, and later moved the date again to November 19, 2026. Rockstar said it needed more time to polish the game to the standard fans expect. You can read the full story in our delay history.
Because this date has survived the opening of pre-orders and a full marketing campaign, it is considered much firmer than the earlier ones. Still, no release date is guaranteed until the game is actually available, so we recommend checking Rockstar’s official website before making travel or time-off plans.
Platforms: Where Can You Play?
At launch, GTA 6 is confirmed only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is not planned for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. There is no announced PC version, no Nintendo version and no mobile version. If you are waiting for PC, read our PC release date guide, which explains what executives have said and what the history of earlier Rockstar games suggests.
Pre-Orders, Pre-Loading and Editions
Pre-orders opened in June 2026. Rockstar announced two editions: the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. Published reports say that digital pre-orders can be pre-loaded starting on November 12, 2026, one week before launch, and that physical editions contain a digital code rather than a game disc. This matters for planning: you will need a good internet connection and enough free storage on your console. See our guides on pre-ordering and price and editions.
What Time Will GTA 6 Unlock?
Rockstar has talked about pre-orders opening at midnight local time, but we have not seen an official worldwide unlock time for launch day itself. Console games can unlock at midnight in each time zone or at a single global moment, and the platform holders may handle it differently. Our release time guide explains how to convert times for Pakistan, India, the UK, the US and elsewhere, and our countdown page counts down to midnight on launch day in your local time.
What We Know About the Game
The game is set in Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida, with Vice City as its main city. You follow two protagonists, Lucia and Jason. Rockstar has described the launch game as a single-player experience. For more, see our game guide.
Hardware: Do You Need an Upgrade?
If you own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, you do not need anything beyond storage space. Players hoping for PC should avoid buying hardware only for GTA 6 until Rockstar announces a PC version and publishes official requirements. Our system requirements guide collects estimates and explains how to prepare.
How to Prepare for Launch Day
- Free up storage. Large open-world games take a lot of space, and updates add more.
- Test your internet. Digital downloads and physical-edition codes both rely on a stable connection.
- Update your console. Install the latest system software in advance.
- Buy from official stores. Avoid unknown websites selling keys or accounts.
- Plan your time. If you want to play at unlock, use the countdown tool to see your local time.
