GTA 6 Map and Locations: Leonida and Vice City
Last updated: October 3, 2026
The world of Grand Theft Auto VI is set in Leonida, a fictional state heavily inspired by Florida, with Vice City as its best-known city. Rockstar Games has not published a complete official map or a measurement of its size, so this page explains what has been shown in trailers and on Rockstar’s official website. It also warns about fan-made maps that are presented as real.
Leonida: The State
Leonida is portrayed as a sprawling state with a mix of dense urban areas, wetlands, small towns and island chains. The trailers show beaches with crowds, highways at night, shacks near swamps, wildlife such as alligators and flamingos and mansions by the water. This variety suggests that driving between regions will feel different, a trait that earlier GTA games used to make their worlds memorable. The tone mixes tropical beauty with the grit of crime stories.
Vice City
Vice City first appeared in the series in the early 2000s as a neon-lit city inspired by 1980s Miami. In Grand Theft Auto VI it returns as a modern metropolis. The trailers show busy streets, nightlife, car meets and heavy social media presence. Palm-lined boulevards, skyscrapers, ports and beaches all suggest a city with distinct districts, though Rockstar has not listed their names in the sources we reviewed.
Other Regions
Rockstar’s official materials have named additional areas of Leonida, including the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn and Ambrosia, according to material published after the second trailer. We describe them only briefly, because Rockstar has not given full descriptions. The Keys appear to be an island chain, Grassrivers evokes wetland scenery and the other names suggest industrial and rural areas. When Rockstar publishes more detail or an official map, we will expand this section.
Wildlife and Environment
One of the most striking aspects of the trailers is the focus on environment and animals. Alligators in the swamps, birds and other wildlife add life to the world, and weather and lighting changes give different moods at different times of day. Rockstar has a record of building living worlds, as seen in the detail of its previous games, so exploration is likely to be a major attraction.
How Big Is the Map?
You will find many claims about the map’s size, often comparing it to previous maps. Rockstar has not published official dimensions, so we do not repeat these numbers. A bigger map is not automatically better. Rockstar’s design tends to favor density and detail, so the real question is how much there is to do and see in each area.
Beware of Fake Maps
- Fan-made maps based on trailer frames are speculation.
- Maps claiming to be leaked should be treated with caution; they often combine rumors and guesses.
- Check whether the image links to Rockstar or a trustworthy outlet.
Travel and Transport
Earlier GTA games let you drive cars, ride motorcycles, fly aircraft and sail boats. The Leonida trailers show cars, bikes and boats, and its geography with water and islands suggests that boats and aircraft may matter. Rockstar has not detailed the vehicle list, so we avoid assumptions.

How to Explore a Rockstar Map Well
When the game launches, a few habits will help you enjoy the map. Take your time on early drives rather than rushing to missions, since the world often hides activities and scenes that you will miss at high speed. Use different vehicles to see how the terrain feels, from highway cruising to boat travel. Try different times of day, because lighting and traffic change the character of a place. Finally, look for small landmarks and signs, since Rockstar often uses them for jokes and references to real life.
Inspiration From Real Places
Florida’s real geography offers a rich basis for the game: the Everglades wetlands, the Keys, beach cities, theme parks, ports and gated communities. The trailers show references to the state’s culture, including car shows, music scenes and tourism. Rockstar adapts real places into fictional ones, so you will not find a one-to-one copy of any real location, but fans enjoy spotting the inspirations.
What We Will Add
Once Rockstar publishes an official map, we will add region descriptions, a list of notable locations and travel tips. Until then we avoid inventing details.
