GTA 6 PC System Requirements (Estimated)

Last updated: October 3, 2026

Rockstar Games has not announced a PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI, so there are no official PC system requirements. This page offers estimated tiers to help you think about future upgrades. These estimates are based on Rockstar’s earlier PC releases and on the hardware that similar modern open-world games demand. They are not guaranteed, and the official numbers may differ. Please read them as planning guidance rather than facts.

Why These Numbers?

For comparison, Rockstar’s earlier games set a pattern. Grand Theft Auto V’s minimum PC requirements in 2015 included a GeForce GTX 660 with 2 GB of video memory, 4 GB of RAM and about 65 GB of storage. Red Dead Redemption 2’s minimum requirements in 2019 listed a GeForce GTX 770 with 2 GB, 8 GB of RAM and about 150 GB of storage. Each game asked for a considerably stronger system than its predecessor, and storage needs more than doubled. Applying the same pattern to a game released in 2026-2027 leads to estimates of 16 GB of memory, a modern six-core processor and a graphics card from roughly the last six years as a minimum.

Storage: Plan for a Large Install

The final install size for GTA 6 has not been announced. Because Rockstar’s last major PC release required about 150 GB, many predictions assume a similar or larger size. Using an SSD matters for loading and for streaming the open world without stutter, and hard drives are likely to cause problems. Keep at least 50 GB of free space beyond the install for patches and temporary files.

Operating System and Software

Expect a 64-bit version of Windows 10 or 11 to be required for any future PC version, along with DirectX 12 capable hardware. Keep your graphics drivers updated and consider Windows 11 for the latest storage and display features. None of this is confirmed.

Resolution and Frame Rate Targets

Resolution and frame rate depend on settings. At 1080p, mid-range cards are comfortable; at 1440p, the recommended tier fits; at 4K, only top-end cards are likely to maintain high frame rates with demanding settings. Upscaling technologies such as DLSS, FSR and XeSS might help mid-range cards, but support has not been announced.

How to Check Your Own PC

  1. Press Windows + R, type dxdiag and press Enter.
  2. Note your processor and memory on the System tab.
  3. Open the Display tab to see your graphics card and its video memory.
  4. Open Task Manager and the Performance tab to see storage type.

Should You Upgrade Now?

Probably not solely for GTA 6. With no PC announcement, hardware prices and models may change by the time requirements appear. If your PC is more than six years old and you want to play modern games anyway, plan a balanced upgrade rather than a single expensive part. For help choosing, read the GPU and CPU guides, and check the PC release outlook.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will GTA 6 run on 8 GB RAM? Unlikely to run well. Plan for 16 GB at least.

Do I need an SSD? It is strongly advisable for open-world games of this scale.

Is ray tracing required? Nothing has been announced about PC graphics options.

Settings and Upgrades That Usually Matter Most

Even before official data exists, experience with big games shows which settings tend to cost the most performance. Shadow quality, crowd or traffic density, volumetric effects such as fog and clouds, reflection quality and ray tracing usually take the largest share of the frame budget, while texture quality depends mostly on video memory. When PC players tune a demanding game, a sensible approach is to start from a preset that matches the tier of their hardware, test in a busy area, then lower the one or two costly settings that cause the biggest dips. Turning on upscaling is often the single most effective change.

On the hardware side, the most cost-effective upgrades for a mid-range system are usually going from 8 GB to 16 or 32 GB of memory, moving from a hard drive to an SSD and, only then, replacing the graphics card. If your processor is more than eight years old, a platform upgrade (CPU, motherboard and memory) may be needed. Always check compatibility, power supply capacity and case clearance before ordering parts.

How We Will Update This Page

When Rockstar announces a PC version, we will publish the official table here, keep our estimate for comparison and note any differences. Until then, treat all numbers as provisional.
